FAQ – Orange Wine Festival – Nature in the Glass
Is Izola/Isola worth visiting?
Absolutely. Izola/Isola is an old Mediterranean town on the Slovenian coast of the northern Adriatic, with a charming coastal atmosphere and narrow historic streets. It has a long and varied history and was once an island (isola) before land reclamation connected it to the mainland. The town had been known for wine and olive oil production already in antiquity, and its wines were highly appreciated in Venice, which in turn left an important mark on Izola’s architecture, language influences, and local culture. Over the past decade and a half, Izola has also become increasingly internationally recognized for hosting the established Orange Wine Festival—Nature in the Glass, which draws both wine professionals and enthusiasts from around the world.
Where will the festival take place?
The festival venue includes Manzioli Square in the historic center of Izola, the atmospheric 15th-century Manzioli Palace built in the Venetian Gothic style, the even older and storied Podestà Palace proudly displaying its winged lion, and the venerable Church of St. Mary of Haliaetum, where the festival’s panel discussions and talks will be held.
Will growers at the Orange Wine Festival - Nature in the Glass present only orange wines?
No. Growers at the festival will present white, orange, and sparkling wines, all produced in harmony with nature and in accordance with the principles set out in the festival’s Manifesto. In both vineyard and cellar, growers use protective and oenological agents in a measured and restrained way, prioritizing natural processes wherever feasible. All procedures are carried out as spontaneously and judiciously as possible, with careful attention to balance and authenticity. The level of added sulfites is kept to an absolute minimum, and the wines are carefully managed to remain free of faults and flaws.
What commitments do the participating growers uphold?
Growers are responsible farmers who are deeply committed to the biodiversity of their environment. They actively protect and nurture plant, animal, and microbial life across their vineyards. They uphold the harmonious interaction of all three pillars of sustainability—environmental, social, and economic—balancing care for the land with fair treatment of workers and sound business practices. They strive to enhance the reputation of their region and of the entire community of winemakers and wine lovers, promoting quality, authenticity, and local traditions. They are also custodians of the cultural landscape and the specific identity of the place their wine comes from, preserving heritage, terroir, and a sense of belonging for future generations.
What does the festival ticket include?
